Ecology
Ecology: scientific study of interactions among organisms and between organisms and their environment
Ecosystem: collection of all organisms that live in a particular place, together with their nonliving environment
Food Chain: series of steps in an ecosystem in which organisms transfer energy by eating and being eaten
Food Web: A system of interlocking and interdependent food chains.
Producer: An organism that preforms photosynthesis
Consumer: An organism that eats other organism
Autotroph: An organism that preforms photosynthesis
Heterotroph: An organism that doesn't perform photosynthesisTrophic Levels: A position in a food chain occupied by a group of organisms with similar feeding mode.
Energy Pyramid: A graphical model that is shaped like a pyramid to show how the energy flows through a food chain, how the amount of energy is decreasing and becoming less available for organisms as it enters each tropic levels.
Heat: the energy in the ecosystem is lost to the atmosphere as heat.

Critical Questions
Why do organisms rely on one another to survive?
Organisms rely on each other for energy and food supply. For example when in class we did the activity with the string. If you were to take one organism out it effects all the other.
How do living organisms interact with their environment?
Living organisms live in their environments.
How is matter and energy transferred and transformed in an ecosystem?
Energy is transformed from organism to organism through a food chain, food web, or energy pyramid. and ect.
